| As the issue of Kosovo status is of vital importance for the geopolitical balance, political stability and economic prosperity of the Western Balkans, ERNO TV pool crew in cooperation with the exchange members has provided coverage of the Kosovo status process development at its very delicate stage, with focus on the position of the International Community, stand point of Kosovo’s and Serbia’s leaders and citizens on the status negotiations and its influence on the region.
On October 18th, UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari met Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, NATO Secretary General who confirmed that NATO will continue to lead a force to help maintain a safe and secure environment in Kosovo. On that occasion, Ahtisaari announced to present his proposal for the future Kosovo status settlement to the two sides by the end of 2006, even the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Mr. Javier Solana and other EU officials emphasized that the current political situation and forthcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia should be taken into account. After the presentation of the Kosovo status solution draft to the UN Security Council, October 31 and consultations with the Contact Group members on November 10th, Ahtisaari delayed presentation of his Kosovo status proposal to the two sides until after the January 21st 2007 elections in Serbia.
