MEETINGS and WORKSHOPS
In 2006 ERNO Coordination Office organized one regional meeting of the EVN Editors and ERNO Coordination Office staff participated at major EBU meetings and at the NewsXchange conference.
10th ERNO regional meeting was held in Ljubljana on April 13-16, 2006 and the participators included: the regional EVN Editors from the ERNO member TV Stations; Andrea Cairola as the UNESCO representative; Gunnar Hoidahl, Chairman of the EBU News Group; Jouko Blomberg from YLE and Boris Bergant, Deputy General Director in charge of the International Cooperation at the RTV SLO. Women Trafficking documentary made in the joint production efforts of the ERNO members and the ERNO Coordination Office was screened for the first time at this ERNO regional meeting which showed that ERNO members can and are willing to cooperate in creating stories of the wider and not just regional interest.
ERNO members have expressed their willingness to widen the cooperation in co-production of other projects besides the existing regular news exchange. The meeting concluded that ERNO regional exchange as such is very much needed by all the ERNO members and other EBU members in obtaining stories from the region that cannot be obtained in any other way.
ERNO Coordination Office staff participated at the EBU meeting on News / Sport News Editors and Contact, Unilaterals and TV Services held in Djerba, Tunisia, on September 26-30, 2006, which was a useful opportunity to give the promotional ERNO DVD to the EBU News Editors in order for them to get a better insight into the ERNO history, activities and achievements.
ERNO Coordinator also presented the project at the meeting of the EBU General Assembly held in Cascais, Portugal, on July 4-7, 2006. The participators of the General Assembly were shown the facts on the ERNO achievements in the last 3 years (2004-2006) which was the opportunity for the regional General Directors of the Public TV Stations to express their full support for the ERNO project by signing the letter of support for the future existence of ERNO as such.
ERNO staff participated at the biggest media event of the year - News Xchange conference held on November 2-3, 2006, in Istanbul. The topics of discussions included the encounter between the military and the media and the ways the military is fighting wars of insurgency in a world of real-time television news; the brakthroughs in the media technology and how they influence the ways of traditional broadcasting; Turkey at the tipping point with the new polls showing Turks increasingly opposed to membership in the EU and the EU publishing its latest report on Turkey's qualifications to join, etc.
